AI needs a better question

The first question about artificial intelligence should be which problem deserves to be solved, rather than which tool to use. A model can produce answers quickly; that does not guarantee the chosen task has value.

Working with AI means defining context, boundaries and a way to evaluate. Automation is useful when it reduces friction without making the process opaque. Oversight is part of the architecture.

My interest lies in systems where people can understand what happens, correct it and decide when an answer is good enough.

Design organises a decision

An interface is where strategy becomes concrete. Every hierarchy, link and visual pause proposes a journey. Design begins with understanding what a person needs to do.

A good visual system makes an identity recognisable and supports its use. Beauty matters when it helps create clarity, trust and a sustainable experience.

In complex platforms, reducing noise can be as important as adding a feature.

Territory is also information

A map is more than an image. It relates places, infrastructure, activities and questions. Connecting these layers reveals patterns and the limits of what we know.

Geospatial technology is valuable when it preserves context: where a datum comes from, what it represents and what cannot be concluded from it. A scenario is a tool for exploration, not a certainty about the future.

This is where GIS, data and design meet: making complexity readable without pretending it has disappeared.
